Tree Preservation Order Advice

A TPO prohibits the removal or pruning of the subject tree without the prior consent of the local planning authority. Deliberate destruction or damage to a protected tree is a criminal offence and can result in a fine of between £2,500 and £20,000.

There is often a misconception that trees subject to TPOs cannot be pruned or removed under any circumstances; however, trees are not static, and remedial or facilitative work can inevitably - and justifiably - be required sooner or later.

Woodsage Consulting can offer expert advice on TPOs, from first consultation with the client - to assess if their intentions are reasonable and justifiable – through to preparation of detailed works specification, which can then be submitted to the LPA for assessment.
